Work created for the “Living Together” Summit, at the request of the Mayor of Montreal, Mr. Denis Coderre.
This contemporary work was specially conceived for the 2015 “Living Together” Summit. It features two interlocking representations of the island of Montreal. This original integration expresses the importance of support, sharing, and communion between people. One contour is hollow while the other is filled in, symbolizing the courtesy we extend to one another in everyday relationships: the larger surrounding the smaller. Part of the sculpture, carved in water and made entirely of aluminum, has been hand-polished, while the other part is deliberately left in its natural cut, recalling the diversity of communities found on the island of Montreal.
